Foot Sense Pedorthics

Dr. Stutz is a Board Certified Pedorthist who specializes in the treatment of lower extremity conditions through the use of custom foot orthotics.  Pedorthists differ from podiatrists in that they design and modify custom foot orthotics themselves, rather than simply sending an order to a lab.  Therefore, the devices that Dr. Stutz designs can be modified in house to ensure a perfect fit.

Dr. Stutz is currently the only practitioner in the state of Colorado that is licensed as Board Certified Pedorthist and Doctor of Chiropractic.  His extensive training in the areas of anatomy, biomechanics, and pathophysiology combines to uniquely qualify him to design truly custom orthotics based on the physical characteristics, shoe style, and lifestyle of the individual. By using cutting edge casting techniques and creative modifications, many of which Dr. Stutz personally invented, his treatment of lower extremity conditions with custom foot orthotics is unparalleled.

Dr. Stutz favors a team approach when necessary, working with other physicians, physical therapists, massage therapists, and team trainers. He has successfully treated individual members of the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, and U.S. Ski Team.

There are thousands of different shoe inserts and orthotics available, but all of them can be placed in two general categories; supportive devices and corrective devices.

Supportive devices are usually prefabricated insoles that offer comfort and better arch support than what typically comes in a shoe.  Examples include inserts from online retailers, shoe stores, foot insert chain stores, and sporting goods stores.

Corrective devices are custom made orthotics that change how weight is distributed, correct aberrant movement patterns and improve overall function of the lower extremities. The result is a reduction in isolated areas of stress (pain reduction), restoration of proper lower extremity biomechanics, and greater comfort and energy transfer throughout the body.

Dr. Stutz designs corrective custom orthotics based on a patient’s activities, body weight, health history and many other factors. He designs the most advanced preventative and therapeutic medical devices available for the lower extremities.

Once a patient receives custom foot orthotics, Dr. Stutz will follow up with them in 4-6 weeks to examine the wear pattern on the devices and determine if any modifications are necessary. He does not consider an orthotic complete until it is comfortable to the patient and performing as intended.
